Mpumalanga Kruger National Park is located in northeastern South Africa. The park borders Zimbabwe and Mozambique, but the southern border of the park is the Crocodile River. A number of the park’s residents are nocturnal and this recording from the river captures their sounds.
Kirstenbosch Table Mountain is located in Cape Town and is a dominant feature of the city. At over 1000 meters at the highest point, the mountain offers up stunning views of the city and surrounding area. Many visitors take the cable car to the top, but there are a few hiking options for those seeking a more difficult route. One of these options begins in the city’s botanical gardens and the first part of the trail goes through a lush ravine where this sound was recorded before reaching the top.
Peninsula The Cape of Good Hope is the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. The Cape is not the most southern point of the African continent as many people believe, but the picturesque rocky shoreline is an important landmark for voyages around the coast.
Maki Lemurs are primates that are endemic to the island of Madagascar. There are over 100 species, but one of the most recognized is the ring-tailed lemur due to its long black and white ringed tail. They are some of the most adaptable lemur species and have a large range throughout Southern Madagascar including the Anja Community Reserve near Ambalavao. This recording captures the lemurs alerting other members of the group that there are predators in the area.
Waddle Boulders Beach is located in Simon’s Town on the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. It is a popular place for visitors due to the colony of African Penguins that live there. This rare and endangered penguin are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa and are commonly referred to as ‘Jackass’ penguins because their unique call can resemble a donkey.
Roar Kruger is the oldest National Park in South Africa and was established in 1926. It covers approximately 20,000 square km and is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. The park hosts the ‘Big 5’ and wide variety of iconic wildlife including lions. They are most active in the morning and this male lion’s call was recorded there in 2019.
Causeway Coast Located in County Antrim on the north, the Giant’s Causeway is one of the most popular attractions in Northern Ireland. It contains approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that were there result of an ancient volcanic eruption. Many of the columns are a hexagonal shape and some are as tall as 12 meters, making the Causeway a unique place to visit and marvel at its natural beauty.
SoBe South Beach has an iconic vibe and is a lively part of Miami, Florida. Sitting on the Atlantic Ocean, the area is well known for its nightlife, but visitors can also relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the stunning white beach.
Britain’s Last Wilderness The Knoydart Peninsula is located in Lochaber on the west coast of Scotland. It is one of the most remote places in the United Kingdom as there are no connecting roads and it is only accessible by hiking or by boat. The area attracts outdoors enthusiasts who soak up the stunning mountain and sea views.
Tomb The Nizamuddin Dargah is a mausoleum located in the old Muslim quarter in Delhi, India. The area is visited by thousands of pilgrims every week and a lively market has sprung up in the neighborhood surrounding the shrine.
