As one of the largest salsa music events in all of Colombia, many locals and international visitors flock to the festival to dance, discover new music, and party. This sound of street vendors was recorded near the entrance of the Estadio Pascual Guerrero.
Música de Playa Cartagena is a beach destination for Colombians and international travelers. The city is known for scorching heat and humid air and locals and visitors flock daily to the Bocagrande Peninsula to cool off from the heat. If you are fortunate, you may hear locals playing instruments and singing in the Colombian folk music style known as Vallenato.
Buena Vista Located in the northern outskirts of the large and bustling city of Cali is the Parque Nacional Bataclán. At the summit of the park is the Cerro de las Tres Cruces, an iconic monument of three crosses that overlook the city. At an altitude of 650 meters, Minca is much cooler than the nearby coastal city of Santa Marta. A river flows throughout the town and surrounding area. A lesser known hike to the hidden waterfalls is available to those who seek out a tranquil adventure.
Crecer Minca is a small village located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in northern Colombia. The area is world famous for its organic coffee and cacao farms. The mountainous forest provides shade which gives these valued crops the perfect conditions to thrive. This sound of birds and insects was recorded at a local farm.
Street Food In Colombia, Mazamorra is a corn-based beverage that can be served on its own, or be an accompaniment to a larger meal. A bicycle vendor promotes his product using a pre-recorded announcement played on a loudspeaker. When purchasing Mazamorra from a street vendor, customers will typically add their own preferred amount of milk and panela or sugar cane. He was also selling Champús, a similar drink to Mazamorra that often includes fresh fruit.
Ciudad Amurallada Cartagena is a very dynamic city and popular destination in Colombia. A modern skyline provides a stark contrast to the narrow streets and alleyways of the old walled city. A short distance outside the walls of the old city is the historic barrio Getsemani. In this area vendors toting fruit and vegetable carts can often be found. This particular vendor was selling avocado’s which in Spanish is aguacate.
Place of Cheetas At the foothills of the Drankenberg Mountains lies the municipality of Manguang. This is a recording taken there during a celebration of life, or funeral. Loved ones and friends can be heard chanting and singing gospel songs to honor the deceased memory.
