Mompiche
Mompiche is a small fisherman’s community in Northern Ecuador that has turned into a hidden gem for surfers and backpackers. We stumbled upon a group of local fisherman unloading their nightly catch. Great Frigatebirds and local women and kids swarmed the fishing boats as they neared the beach. The locals came prepared each morning with bags in hand, waiting for dropped fish from birds and fishermen alike. The children made a game of throwing the fish up into the air for the birds to grab the fish midflight.
