In the southernmost part of Ecuador bordering Peru, the town of Mangahurco waits each year for the rainy season to begin. 2015 was a dry year, and the pastures and fields had become desert-like. Everyone – including the cows who were being fed dry corn husks and leaves – was anxious for the season to begin.
