Ulva Island, New Zealand

Eilean na Ulbha
Within the Paterson Inlet off the coast of New Zealand’s Stewart Island lies Ulva Island. Due to the island’s relative isolation, it has become a sanctuary for birds and plants. Following an eradication program, the island was declared rat-free in 1997. Many rare and endangered bird species have found a safe haven from predator possums, cats, and rats.
