Great Apes
In Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda is home to roughly 380 endangered mountain gorillas, a subspecies uniquely adapted to high altitudes with thicker, longer fur than their lowland relatives. These gentle giants live in cohesive social groups led by a dominant silverback, spend much of their day foraging on bamboo and wild celery, and share approximately 98% of their DNA with humans.
