Connecting Continents
Straddling the Bosphorus Strait, Istanbul is unique as one side of the city lies in Europe and the other in Asia. Originally conceptualized in 1860 by the Ottoman Empire, the Marmaray undersea rail tunnel opened in 2013 and provides an additional route between continents for millions of residents.
