Isla Mujeres, Mexico
North America
Island of Fertility
The easternmost point of Mexico is Isla Mujeres. Located off the coast from Cancun, the island was originally a sanctuary to Ixchel, the Mayan Goddess of fertility. When Spanish explorers discovered the island, it was named Isla Mujeres due to the numerous female shaped idols they found. Today, visitors are drawn to the laid back vibe and warm blue water of the Caribbean Sea.
