Football in Turkey dates back to the late 19th century and remains very popular in the country today. The Super League is the top-flight of Turkish football and contains a few teams from the city of Istanbul, including Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş. The inter-city rivalries are intense and crowds gather hours before game time in preparation for the match.
