Siam
The city of Ayutthaya was founded by King Ramathibodi in 1350 and was the capital of the kingdom until its destruction by the Burmese in 1767. Located 64 km north of Bangkok, the ruins offer a cultural escape from the big city. Wat Chaiwatthanaram is located on the west bank of Chao Phraya River and is one of the area’s best known temples. The local bird population provides a soundscape for visitors to the impressive ruins.
