As with art, Aztec music and dance were performed to please the gods, not for entertainment or to show off knowledge or skill. In fact, the Aztec culture and religion tied music and dance into its daily life and ceremonies, which are still practiced in Mexico City. Near the Zócalo, a group performs a ritual ceremony amongst the vendors.
