Svetlina
For centuries the people of Bulgaria have known that the human voice can be much more expressive in song than in conversation. Traditional songs have been passed down from generation to generation while maintaining their roots. This recording is of the group Svetlina and was made during a presentation about Bulgarian music at the American University in Bulgaria. Svetlina is the Bulgarian word for light and the female ensemble was founded by former student Lacey Cope. Her passion for Balkan folklore has inspired others to join in.
