Shinto is a Japanese ethnic religion. Its origins date back to the 8th century, and its practices establish a connection between modern-day and ancient Japan. There are over 80,000 Shinto shrines in the country. Displays of the religion can even be found in the streets, including this chanting, heard on a streetcorner in Kyoto.
