Opened in 1983, the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center’s 29 acres of tropical savannah are home to over 45 native species. All of the zoo’s animals are orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to the zoo as donations from other zoological institutions. One of the Belize Zoo’s larger residents is Carlos the Puma.
